The work Excavator is an adjusted claw machine, one of those that you can find at a fair or arcade hall. You throw in a few coins and play for winning a teddy bear, a watch or a pack of cigarettes. Only, that’s not what you can catch in this machine. Excavator is filled with handmade plaster and textile replicas of artifacts found in the Middle East. The objects were excavated, sometimes looted, by colonizers and shipped to museums in Europe and the United States. They never found their way back to their original location.
